About JJ Hogan Towing

A Foundation Built on Family
In 1990, Jerome “JJ” Hogan Jr. started JJ Hogan Towing out of his own garage in Danville, Virginia. With just one truck and a desire to help people in their toughest moments, JJ laid the foundation for what would become one of the region’s most trusted towing operations. What started as a local service for friends and neighbors quickly gained attention for its reliability, care, and personal touch. JJ handled every job himself, day or night, rain or shine, building a reputation that still defines the company today.
Growing with Purpose
As the call volume increased, so did the need for more equipment and support. JJ hired his first helper just one year in, adding strength and speed to every call. A few years later, his son Tony joined the team, working on the trucks and learning the business from the ground up. Over time, Tony would take on more responsibility, eventually guiding the company into a new era of digital systems, modern dispatching, and web presence. But despite the growth and improvements, the values never changed—show up, do the job right, and treat people with respect.

Professional Lot Enforcement
In early 2025, JJ Hogan Towing began managing lot enforcement for local businesses, including private property towing and unauthorized vehicle removal. This service allows property managers to maintain access, safety, and order without the burden of daily monitoring. Whether it’s enforcing clearly posted rules or responding to urgent removal requests, the company provides prompt and respectful service that reflects its overall commitment to professionalism. With consistent communication and clear procedures, JJ Hogan Towing ensures property owners and tenants alike are treated fairly.
Taking the Lead
Tony Hogan officially took over the company in 2018, continuing the family legacy while introducing new tools and technologies to streamline the business. Under his leadership, JJ Hogan Towing launched its first website, implemented a modern dispatch system, and improved response time with GPS coordination. But Tony’s impact goes beyond systems—he reinforced the importance of service, honesty, and consistency with every job. As the company transitioned into a new generation, it never lost sight of what built it: doing the right thing for the people who call.

Heavy-Duty Capability
In 2000, JJ Hogan Towing added its first rotator truck to the fleet, enabling the company to take on more complex and challenging recoveries, including overturned semis and heavy equipment retrieval. That addition marked a key point in the company’s evolution from a light-duty wrecker service to a full-scale towing operation. Today, the fleet includes a wide range of trucks built to handle everything from standard breakdowns to multi-vehicle recoveries and equipment transport. Every vehicle is maintained to the highest standard to ensure safety and readiness around the clock.
A Legacy of Mutual Respect
JJ Hogan Towing’s relationships with other local towing companies have always been built on mutual support rather than competition. A strong example of that spirit was the connection with Nick’s Towing & Recovery, a respected Danville business founded in 1988 by Nicholas “Nick” Sapounakes. For many years, Nick and JJ worked together on complex jobs, exchanging knowledge and lending a hand whenever one was needed. Even after Nick’s passing in 2021, that sense of camaraderie remains—a quiet but important reminder that serving the community isn’t a solo act.

Our Mission
